The Gift

I sit at the edge of a dead glacier breathing in the dust of a thousand years of erosion. It is totally silent except for the sound of the wind howling down the ghostly remains of the ice giant.

Good times

The previous day to this one I backpacked to another lake a little lower in elevation than this one. That evening was as close to perfect as life gets in the backcountry. I had a warm fire and I watched the light show of the universe.
Just before sunrise, a bird landed in the tree above my tent and began to call the sun. It seemed like that was my signal to get up.
An hour's climbing brought me to this lake. It was glass calm and sunny. I lay on the rocks sunbathing and enjoying the solitude. After I was fully warmed I went for a dip with the trout in the ice cold lake.
Tell me, how can life have more meaning than this?
